Research Assistant                                                                           (August 2010-present)

• Assist Newhouse Endowed Chair of Public Communications with research of media law issues, including defamation, invasion of privacy, free press-fair trial, copyright, press coverage of the courts, freedom of information and confidentiality in newsgathering.
• Duties include compiling relevant literature from legal, scholarly, trade and popular press and updating sections of media law textbook.

• Assisted associate professor with research of legal issues involving restorative justice and extreme emotional distress for magazine stories and a book proposal.
• Duties included compiling relevant literature from legal, scholarly, trade and popular press; collection and analysis of data primary and secondary sources.

• Assisted Newhouse Endowed Chair of Public Communications, as well as the former Dean of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, with all aspects of classroom operations.
• Wrote and graded exams.
• Advised students on exam preparation, term papers and other assignments.

Professional Journalism Experience
Press & Sun-Bulletin, Binghamton, N.Y.                                                                              August 2004-August 2009

• Served as baseball writer and college sports writer for 75,000-circulation newspaper.
• Worked as beat writer for Binghamton Mets. Responsible for all aspects of the beat, including covering all home and selected road games as well as writing features, analysis pieces and columns. Covered the entire New York Mets organization.
• Covered Binghamton University athletics, with emphasis on men’s and women’s basketball. Staffed all men’s basketball games, home and road, and a majority of the women’s games. Generated feature stories and columns.
• Wrote blogs as part of coverage of Binghamton University athletics and the Binghamton Mets. Served as a key contributor to paper’s Web site, pressconnets.com, including frequent updates and creating of breaking news pages. Fully trained in shooting and editing video footage.
• Served as lead writer for paper’s coverage for the 2005 B.C. Open, a PGA Tour event, and the 2007 Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, a Champions Tour event.
• Responsible for covering the entire athletic department at Binghamton University. Generated game stories, enterprise pieces and feature stories on teams, athletes and trends. Also covered the America East Conference on a regular basis.
• Duties also included covering all sports at Broome Community College. Position also included pagination and editing duties.
• Position included general assignment work, as well as assisting in coverage of the Binghamton Senators hockey team, high school sports and community events. Routinely contributed to the paper’s GenXchange column.
• Represented the paper at area and regional academic and professional programs and symposia.

The Times Herald, Olean, N.Y.,                                                                                              February 1999-August 2004
• Served as St. Bonaventure men’s basketball beat writer for five seasons, a position that involved coordinating coverage of all games, as well as writing feature stories and columns.
• Voted in the Associated Press Top-25 men’s college basketball poll for four years.
• Duties also included covering the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. Position also included pagination and editing duties.
• Also served as a reporter on the paper’s news staff, which entailed covering meetings, generating feature stories and writing a weekly column for the commentary page.
• Represented the paper at area and regional academic and professional programs and symposia.
